Books you can actually check
Even Margin connects to your bank and categorizes every transaction. Every one shows what your bank sent, what Even Margin AI named it, the reason for the category, and every change since. Books you can see into, not a black box you take on faith.
The hard part is knowing who you paid
Your statement says SQ *ROASTERY ON 3RD and AplPay UBER *TRIP. Working out that those are a coffee shop and a car ride, and which line of your profit and loss each one belongs on, is the entire job. It is what we built, against a merchant list our team keeps by hand so the same vendor lands the same way every month.
- 3 confidence levels, on every category. High confidence goes straight into your books. Everything else waits in your review queue with its reason, ready for a quick look.
- 59 categories, already set up. A chart of accounts built for small businesses, seeded the moment you sign up. There is nothing to design before you start.
- 21 software functions, by what a tool is for. Your subscriptions grouped by job, not by which line they bill to. The answer to 'why are we paying for nine marketing tools'.
Software that shows its work
Every category carries a confidence level and the reason behind it. That is the difference between books you trust and books you re-check.
- High: Categorized, no question asked. A known merchant matched cleanly. It goes straight into your books, with nothing for you to do.
- Medium: Categorized, worth a glance. Based on real evidence about this exact transaction. It waits in your review queue for a quick confirm.
- Low: A suggestion, clearly labeled. Based on a general pattern rather than a specific match, and labeled that way so you know where it came from.
What Even Margin does
- Even Margin AI reads the statement for you. Your bank sends a string of letters and numbers. Even Margin AI works out who you actually paid, sorts it into one of 59 business categories, and shows how confident it is in each.
- Set it once, and it sticks. Rules run in a priority order you control. One rule can rename a merchant, another can set its category, and both apply to the same charge without fighting over it.
- Confidence you can act on. Every category carries a confidence level and the reason behind it. High goes straight through. Everything else lands in your review queue, with the most important first.
- One charge, several categories. A payroll debit that blends wages, taxes and fees can be split into parts that still reconcile to the single line your bank sent.
- Statements, not spreadsheets. Profit & Loss and Cash Flow, ready whenever you want to look. Export either the moment your accountant asks.
- The same money, counted once. Moving money between your own accounts is neither income nor an expense. Even Margin finds the halves that have not been matched up and asks which arrival a departure paid for, so one movement stops reading as two.
- Duplicates caught before your reports. A card that posts twice, or a charge that arrives again through a second connection, is flagged with the reason it looks like a copy. You decide, before it reaches a statement your accountant reads.
- Hand it to your accountant, in place. Invite your accountant or bookkeeper and they open the same books you do, as current as yours: nothing to export, nothing to send over. They see the confidence level and the full history on every transaction, so most of what they would have emailed you about is already answered.
- Read-only, by design. Your bank login goes to Plaid and stays with your bank. Even Margin has read-only access, so your money stays exactly where it is.
How it works
- 01. Connect a bank. One login through Plaid brings in checking, savings and cards. Pick the accounts you want. We pull in as much history as your bank will give us, and tell you how far back each account actually reached.
- 02. Look at what is already done. Every transaction arrives named and categorized, with a confidence level on each one. Most need nothing from you.
- 03. Settle the handful that are unclear. The review queue groups them by merchant and leads with the largest, so a few keystrokes clear a month. Turn any correction into a standing rule as you go.
- 04. Hand it over whenever you need it. Invite your accountant or bookkeeper at quarter end, at tax time, or leave them there all year. They work in the same current books, and anything they change is in the history under their own name.
